With Kenton/Bushman’s roots, the organisers are eager to articulate a similar wine infused, tourism booster to the barefoot capital.

The Great Kenton Wine Festival was formalised in September 2020, when representatives of the Karoo Wine Club met with local Rotarians and business leaders to speak about the idea that of bringing a wine tourism match to the Kenton/Bushman’s area in these tricky financial occasions.

Louis Hattingh, director of local projects of the Kenton Chamber of Industry, said: “The very basic idea is for the KWC to ask 11 of the most piquant wine estates and producers in SA to Kenton for the prolonged weekend of March 19-22, for a Sunshine Coast inspired weekend wine tasting at the Kenton Bowls and Diaz Angling golf equipment.  Whereas they are here, the local restaurants, golf equipment and societies team up with them and plan a entire weekend of bespoke Covid-friendly, wine-infused special dinners and occasions and functions around them.

“And boy, have the local companies jumped at the alternative and arrive up with among the most amazing ideas and experiences,” he added.

Industry owner Annie McInnes said: “All the weekend is totally local business targeted and with the exception of the wineries, who are the drawcard, handiest local Kenton/Bushman’s area entrepreneurs and companies may participate, this to verify that that the majority of the income generated by this weekend stays in the local financial system.”
