References 

If an applicant has references on their resume, it is a good sign. It means they have no reason not to share with you what their previous employers thought of them. It will also allow you to see what previous employers thought of this person. This helps to give you a unique insight in regards to what this person is like to work with. If the person has contact details for their references that are listed, be sure to reach out to them. You can ask them any lingering questions you might have in regards to the candidate. As well as this, be sure to ask them for an honest opinion on the person in question. 

Skills 

A person is not just defined by their experience. After all, just because someone worked somewhere else doesn’t mean they are suitable for your company. This is why you are going to want to check out to see what skills they have listed. What kind of things are they good at, what software can they use, what can they offer the company that will improve your team. You are going to want to look for skills that match up to the role they are applying for.
