Kaizer Chiefs star Samir Nurkovic will be free to leave the Glamour Boys at the end of the current campaign, IF the Amakhosi don’t trigger his extension.
Nurkovic joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2019 on a three year deal which means he’s now entered into his last year of contract at the Soweto giants however his agent has since confirmed that the club do have an option to extend his contract by a further year.
Nurkovic has been a shadow of his former self at the Amakhosi during recent months. He burst onto the scene in 2019 and quickly made a name for himself as one arguably one of the most lethal strikers around.
Nurkovic scored a total of 14 goals during his first campaign. His second season was marred by a reported pay increase demand at Naturena, and when he did eventually return to the field of play for Kaizer Chiefs, Nurkovic managed to score just six goals.
Nurkovic’s agent provides Kaizer Chiefs contract update
“Samir is focusing on his recovery at the moment. But yes, I can confirm that his contract is up at the end of the season. Chiefs do have an option to extend it for another year, but it’s too early to have those discussions,” Nurkovic’s agent Dajan Simac told SoccerLaduma.
Samir Nurkovic has only featured for Kaizer Chiefs on five occasions this season, in which he failed to find the back of the net.
He’s currently on the sidelines at Naturena after undergoing knee surgery and is only expected to be back in approximately two months time.
With Nurkovic being ruled out through injury as well as fellow striker Leonardo Castro, the Amakhosi find themselves in a major predicament in their striking department.
Should Kaizer Chiefs fail to sign at least TWO top strikers in the next transfer window, the club will undoubtedly be forced to trigger Samir Nurkovic’s extension despite his woeful form.
