Police say a man arrested for assault in downtown Vancouver Friday morning is also a person of interest in the case of a woman who was followed for roughly 40 minutes in Chinatown earlier in the week.
“Yesterday morning, a man was arrested after assaulting a female sufferer in downtown Vancouver,” said Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin in a information release Saturday.
“From this investigation, officers have diagnosed a person of interest in the stalking case,” she added.
Police have no longer shared the identity of the man, saying handiest that he’s a 33-year-mature Vancouver resident.
He’s being held in jail and the VPD has advised assault charges against him to Crown counsel, police said.
The stalking incident happened Wednesday evening. Jamie Coutts had legal finished her grocery shopping and was walking dwelling, when she felt love any person was following her.
“I first noticed he was following me between Keefer Road and Keefer Place,” she told CTV Information Vancouver during an interview on Friday. “I made up my mind to film so I may perhaps contemplate how cessation behind me he was and what he was doing.”

In the video, which Coutts later posted to her Facebook page, the man can be considered walking behind her, keeping pace along with her as she walks around the block a couple of occasions to affirm her suspicion about what was happening.
Coutts eventually approached a staff of strangers in a skate park and asked if she may perhaps sit with them till the man left. She reported the incident to police once she felt safe.
Since Coutts posted about the incident, other girls folks have near forward to share similar tales of being stalked in Vancouver.
On Saturday, Coutts told CTV Information she has spoken to VPD and told them she doesn’t deem the man they arrested for the assault is the one who followed her.
Vancouver police didn’t record the arrested man as a suspect in the stalking case, handiest as a person of interest.
Visintin told CTV Information via email that the investigation in the stalking case is “active and ongoing.” She added that she couldn’t discuss details about how the investigation is being carried out “in narrate to catch the integrity of the file.”
