NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Nico Hischier has been named the Tranquil Jersey Devils’ captain.
The Devils made the announcement Saturday before Hischier confronted the Buffalo Sabres in his first recreation of the season. The Swiss center, who used to be the No. 1 total prefer in the 2017 draft, missed the first 11 games with a leg injury.
The Devils haven’t had a captain since Andy Greene used to be dealt to the Tranquil York Islanders final February.
At 22 years and 47 days worn, Hischier is the youngest captain at the 2d in the NHL and the 2d youngest in Tranquil Jersey history after Kirk Muller (21 years, 243 days worn). Hischier additionally becomes the 2d Swiss-born captain in the league, becoming a member of Roman Josi of Nashville.
Hischier has played 209 traditional-season games in three seasons, collecting 51 targets and 84 assists. He has finished in the top three in team scoring in every of his three years with the membership.
