Victorian farmers combating workforce shortages will need to pay $2,000 towards the quarantine charges of every worker they invent in from the Pacific Islands.

The Victorian and Tasmanian governments had previously launched a deal whereby Victoria would quarantine 330 Tasmanians getting back from overseas in return for up to 1,500 Pacific Island workers winding up quarantine in Tasmanian inns.

The deal was launched after a chain of fruit and vegetable growers in Gippsland and Victoria’s north east had to abandon crops due to an absence of workers.
