“The government of SA is appalled at the unjust and unwarranted decision of the AU Rate to grant Israel observer status within the AU. The price has taken this decision unilaterally with out consultations with its members,” said Dirco spokesperson Clayson Monyela.

Israel received observer status, which it had been stressful for years,  ultimate Thursday.

Israel, which maintains relations with 46 African international locations, previously had observer status inner the Organisation of African Unity unless it became once disbanded in 2002 and replaced by the AU.

“The AU strenuously objected to the deaths of Palestinians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. The decision by the AU Rate in this context is inexplicable. The unjust actions committed by Israel offend the letter and spirit of the constitution of the AU,” Monyela said.

“The AU embodies the aspirations of all Africans and reflects their self belief that it’s going to lead the continent thru the helpful expression of the targets of the constitution, especially on disorders relating to self-determination and decolonisation. Israel continues to illegally capture Palestine in total defiance of its international obligations and related UN resolutions.

“It’s due to this reality incomprehensible that the AU Rate chooses to reward Israel at a time when its oppression of Palestinians has been demonstrably extra brutal,” said Monyela.

He said the SA government will seek information from the chairperson of the price to provide a briefing to all member states on the decision, “which we hope will be talked about by the governmentcouncil and the assembly of heads of states and government”.

“SA firmly believes that as lengthy as Israel is now not entertaining to negotiate a peace realizing with out preconditions it wouldn’t hold observer status within the AU. The AU can now not be a celebration in any capability to plans and actions that would evaluate the ideal of Palestinian statehood decreased into balkanised entities devoid of lawful sovereignty, with out territorial contiguity and without a economic viability,” said Monyela.
