Taking the stage at her first-ever Grammy Awards, Megan Thee Stallion used to be at a loss for phrases accepting her award for Simplest New Artist on the 63rd annual ceremony tonight (March 14). This used to be her 2nd snatch — the first being Simplest Rap Efficiency for her “Savage” remix with Beyoncé — but when three-time Grammy winner Lizzo introduced the Houston rapper’s victory exterior Los Angeles’s Staples Center, it used to be time to soak all of it in.
“I don’t need to screech,” Megan, who’s nominated for four awards total, talked about after about a long moments of silence behind the microphone. She went on to applaud her fellow Simplest New Artist nominees for being “so unprecedented”: Ingrid Andress, Phoebe Bridgers, Chika, Noah Cyrus, D Smoke, Doja Cat, and Kaytranada.
“I in level of fact need to suppose thank you to my mama,” she later added. “She’s not right here with me this day, but I do know she [is] right here with me in spirit, and she or he repeatedly believed I will also produce it, so thank you all so powerful.”
Megan Thee Stallion’s mom — Holly Thomas, a rapper identified as “Holly-Wood” — died in 2019 after a few years of helping her daughter produce what she loves most. Even though “Savage” is the tune that catapulted her to stardom by TikTok, with this snatch, it’s sure Megan Thee Stallion has many extra hits to write. Ahead of the sign on the red carpet with E!, she gave her fans, a.k.a. Hotties, a brief tease of spacious issues to approach: “I will divulge y’all splendid better be ready for Sizzling Lady Summer time fraction two.”
