NYON, Switzerland (AP) — A felony investigation of alleged wrongdoing by then-team at UEFA ended in police raids at the European soccer body’s headquarters, Swiss cantonal (state) prosecutors said Friday.
Two folks were arrested in April and detained unless this week, the Vaud prosecution region of enterprise said, including it expects the investigation to proceed for several months.
The arrests were revealed by Swiss daily Blick.
UEFA said it fired two members of its information and communication know-how team immediately on discovering out of the investigation, which is ready “preparations with exterior ICT service suppliers.”
The investigation would no longer involve the sale of broadcasting rights or deals with sponsors, said the soccer body which organizes the Champions League and European Championship.
“We are very satisfied with the way the investigation is performed by the prosecutor of the canton of Vaud,” UEFA said in a statement which described the organization as “an injured occasion (and) a private claimant within the preliminary complaints.”
