CHARLOTTETOWN – Prince Edward Island is now below a 72-hour, provincewide lockdown meant to stop two clusters of COVID-19 instances from spreading any extra.
Provincial chief clinical officer Dr. Heather Morrison says the clusters don’t maintain a known source, and the three-day lockdown will allow public health officials to originate comprehensive contact tracing and ramp up testing.
As of hour of darkness, colleges and most non-necessary businesses are closed till Thursday and Islanders have to notice bodily distancing with someone outdoors their instantaneous household.
Exceptions are being made for folk that live alone or require necessary enhance.
The limitations were introduced on Sunday as health officials reported five new COVID-19 infections, for a total of 17 instances over five days.
They arrive on top of so-known as “circuit breaker” measures introduced the day sooner than, which lower store and gymnasium ability in half while banning indoor dining and cancelling many sporting events.
Those measures are plot to be in effect till March 14.
Morrison says the clusters, which are in Charlottetown and Summerside, seem to be connected.
Premier Dennis King says it’s better to “move more tough and stronger” with protecting health measures now than to lengthen and probability the kind of outbreaks seen in varied provinces.
