SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The St. George City Council has unanimously permitted a resolution that supports calling the express “Utah’s Dixie.”
The resolution permitted Thursday mentioned the city in southern Utah would toughen all institutions in the set with “Dixie” in its name, TV set KUTV reported.
However, Republican Gov. Spencer Cox signed a bill this year that required the university in St. George to rethink its name.
Nationwide protests against racial injustice created momentum to alternate the name of the university, which many care for in thoughts offensive. Dixie is a term regularly traditional to check with the Southern states, especially these that shaped the Confederacy.
The Dixie Affirm University board of trustees shaped a committee in March to discover about novel name options. The committee is scheduled to salvage feedback from a public watch forward of it submits a closing name suggestion for the board’s approval.
