Fires in Cape Town spread without warning overnight on Sunday because of this of excessive winds within the blueprint.
A fire which began on Sunday morning spread to the College of Cape Town’s (UCT) greater campus, destroying a cafe reach Rhodes Memorial and gutting the Jagger Library next to Sarah Baartman Hall on the UCT campus.
Firefighters and helicopters labored at some level of the day to douse the flames, but overnight a solid south-easter wind picked up strength and spread the flames all over Devil’s Peak and towards the City Bowl.
Early on Monday morning residents in Vredehoek on the foot of Devil’s Peak glean been requested to evacuate.
